Adult Abuse Reporting
The Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act is a law that aims to protect vulnerable adults from neglect, abuse, and financial exploitation. The law defines vulnerable adults as individuals who, due to their physical or mental conditions, cannot provide for their own care, and are unable to protect themselves from harm or neglect.
Under this law, anyone who has reason to believe that a vulnerable adult is being neglected, abused, or exploited is required to report it to the appropriate authorities. The law also provides immunity from civil or criminal liability for those who make good faith reports.
Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC)
Minnesota has a new central system for reporting suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults.
- Members of the general public can report suspected maltreatment of vulnerable adults by calling the MAARC hotline.
- Mandated reporters may access the reporting website.
