Data and Records Request

The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minnesota Chapter 13, is a state law that controls how government data is collected, created, stored, maintained, used and disseminated. It is the policy of Otter Tail County to collect and manage government data in accordance with Minnesota laws.

Requests can be made by individuals for data about themselves, or giving someone permission to obtain data about yourself. Requests can also be made for data that is public. This page contains the instructions and forms necessary to make such requests.

We maintain a public archive of past financial and accounting reports.

Public data is available to governmental agencies at no cost.

Requests for customized datasets are available, Please check the County fee schedule for current prices. Customized datasets can use criteria such as geographic location (townships, cities, general postal areas, school districts, lake boundaries, or classification of property).

Please complete the Sheriff’s Office Records Request form to request incident reports, transcripts, accident reports, and calls for service. Print the records request form and fill out Part “A”. You will need to print this form as it requires a signature. Once the form has been filled out, it can either be:

Per Minnesota Statute 16B.98, Subd. 5(d), “grant agreements must require the grantee to clearly post on the grantee’s website the names of, and contact information for, the organization’s leadership and the employee or other person who directly manages and oversees the grant for the grantee.”
