Septic Permit Applications
A permit is needed in Otter Tail County to install a new or replacement septic system. Before a permit can be applied for, a design for the septic system must be conducted by a licensed septic designer. A list of licensed septic designers can be found at the SSTS Licensed Business Search. Select a county from the drop-down and select the “Designer” box.
Once a design for a septic system is complete, a permit can be applied for at the link below. Either the homeowner or the contractor can apply for the permit. Once the permit is issued, the system may be installed by a licensed installer. A list of licensed installers can be found at the same website above. Clicking the “Installer” button will give you a list of licensed installers. The installer must contact the office by 4 p.m. the day before an inspection is needed to schedule an inspection before the system is backfilled.
