Screening, Brief Intervention, and Refer to Treatment (SBRIT)
Individuals facing their first DWI charge are invited to take part in a SBIRT interview following their first court hearing. This program can assess risky alcohol and drug use and identifies and provides resources for people with first-time DWI offenses.
Within 30 days of the screening intake you will be contacted for a brief follow up phone call. If you participate in both of these interventions you will be given $100 for each intervention (total of $200) that will be applied to your fine if there is one assessed on your case.
How to participate
Complete a screening intake following your initial court hearing.
- The screening intake will take about 10 minutes with the Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor (LADC) SBIRT screener following your initial court hearing.
- Be prepared to share your contact information, mailing address, email address and phone number.
- At the end of the screening intake, you may need to schedule an appointment with an LADC for a comprehensive assessment.
- You will be given information about who to contact for driver’s license, how to pay your court fees/fines, and victim impact panels, which could all be conditions of your court case.
