Mailbox Information

Residents of Otter Tail County are allowed to place mailbox supports & mailboxes within the road right of way with no liability to the county for any damages, repairs or replacements.

During road improvement projects, as an effort to meet safety criteria requirements, the county may replace mailbox supports and mailboxes at no cost to the resident.

As stated in the Snow & Ice Policy, during snowplowing operations if a mailbox or mailbox support is damaged by direct contact with snowplow equipment, the county may replace the mailbox and/or mailbox support at no cost to the resident. This will be determined on a case by case basis.

All existing and future mailbox and mailbox installations must meet engineered safety break-away criteria for safety to the public and comply with Minnesota Rules Chapter 8818.

Upon request, with reimbursement of expenses, the County may assist residents with mailbox and/or mailbox support repairs or replacements. These costs are subject to change.
