Approach Standards and Application
Please complete and return the Approach Application to the Highway Department. Provide a detailed sketch of the property showing the location of any present and proposed approaches and any site modifications that require the new approach. Please include distances from land corners, highway junctions, streets, etc. In addition, include information concerning the new approach such as proposed use, type of surfacing planned, width of top, etc.
Application Review
To aid in application review, please mark the proposed approach location with a lathe showing the center of the approach and write the name of the applicant on the lath. No horseshoe (U shaped) approaches will be permitted on residential properties. New approach approvals will be determined by traffic safety concerns and existing property accesses. For an approach that will be installed along a curb, special arrangements will need to be made.
Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit a deposit of $1000.00. The approach must be complete within 45 calendar days after a permit is issued or your deposit will not be returned. In the event turf cannot be established before winter, a carryover letter will be sent to you. Your deposit will be held until the following spring/summer when turf can be established.
The application contains a list of contractors that have been approved by Otter Tail County to install approaches.
