Weight Restrictions

Spring Weight Restrictions

Weight restrictions on roadways are implemented each year to preserve and protect Otter Tail County’s road system during the thawing and refreezing associated with spring. Minnesota Statute 169.87 establishes weight restrictions, and the specific dates are set by the Minnesota Commissioner of Transportation.

Restrictions on Otter Tail County Highways will end on May 1, 2026, but are in effect until the signs are removed. Please note that 10-ton roads will not be posted this year.

For more information regarding seasonal load weight restrictions, visit the Minnesota Department of Transportation Seasonal Load Limits webpage.

Bridge Posting

The Highway Department enforces weight restrictions on trucks and heavy vehicles traveling county roads to ensure public safety and protect transportation infrastructure. Trucks exceeding bridge load posting limits are required to take alternate routes to prevent damage to the bridges and maintain road safety.
