Family Resource Center
A Family Resource Center is a community or school-based welcoming hub of support, services, and opportunities for families that:
- Utilizes an approach that is multi-generational, strengths-based, and family-centered
- Reflects and is responsive to community needs and interests
- Provides support at no or low cost for participants
- Builds communities of peer support for families to develop social connections that reduce isolation and stress

Project History
Community Engagement and Assessment for Family Resource Centers
Phase 1
Otter Tail County applied for and received a grant from the Sauer Family Foundation for Community Engagement and Assessment for Family Resource Centers (FRC(s). This phase of work was completed during the months of August 2023 through April 2024 and a comprehensive report and recommendations was completed. The assessment supported the need for FRC(s) in Otter Tail County.
Family Resource Centers: A Community Needs Assessment (Otter Tail County)
As part of the community assessment, focus groups were held in each quadrant of Otter Tail County. These focus groups asked participants a variety of questions about parenting in Otter Tail County.
Quadrant Summaries: Northeast (New York Mills/Perham), Southeast (Parkers Prairie/Henning), Northwest (Pelican Rapids), Southwest (Fergus Falls/Underwood/Battle Lake)
Family Resource Center(s) Development
Phase 2
Otter Tail County applied for and received a Family Resource Center(s) Development Grant, also from the Sauer Family Foundation, to continue the work with a goal of standing up FRC(s) within the county. The grant period begins August 1, 2024.
