Prairie Lakes Community Health Board

Prairie Lakes Community Health Services supports local public health in Otter Tail and Wilkin counties, working to protect and improve the health of people and communities across the region. Through shared services, prevention programs, and partnerships, Prairie Lakes helps address community health needs while supporting the delivery of essential public health services.

Community Health Board

Prairie Lakes Community Health Board was formed by Otter Tail County and Wilkin County through a joint powers agreement. Community Health Boards are authorized under Minnesota’s Local Public Health Act and are responsible for ensuring that essential public health services are available.

The Community Health Board provides governance and oversight for shared public health responsibilities, including planning, policy direction, and coordination with the Minnesota Department of Health. Through this structure, Prairie Lakes helps support the delivery of foundational public health services that protect and promote health across both counties.

What We Do

Our work focuses on prevention, education, and community partnerships that help people live healthier lives.

Key areas of our work include:

  • Community Health Assessment and Planning – Understanding local health needs and working with partners to address community priorities.
  • Prevention and Health Promotion – Supporting programs that improve nutrition, physical activity, maternal and child health, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Communicable Disease Prevention – Monitoring and responding to infectious diseases and helping prevent their spread.
  • Emergency Preparedness – Working with local partners to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies.
  • Community Partnerships – Collaborating with schools, healthcare providers, local governments, and community organizations to support healthier communities.

Through these efforts, Prairie Lakes helps ensure essential public health services are available across both counties
